Question:
My wife wants me to build a solar pool heater.
>My idea has a certian length of black plastic tubing, dia undecided, on the
>roof with a small pump, flow rate undecided, moving water when the water in the
>tube is say > 120 F.
>How does this sound?
>Has any one done the tubing sizing calculation?
>How much energy hits a sq ft of 55 degree angled roof?
Answer:
The reason for these questions is pools require a tremendous amount of
heat - more than many houses need in the winter - so, building a solar
system that actually works, is much more involved than using a few
feet or even a few hundred feet of black pipe.
Solar pool heating works very well if the system is designed, sized
and installed properly.
