Question:
1) Does anyone have any info on this Haywood filter, and
2) Does $884 sound like too much or is it a good deal.
Answer:
The Sequence pump is probably a good choice, but the Haywood
filter probably isn't. Haywood makes sand filters for swimming pools, and
I assume this is what your "pond guy" recommended. Sand filters will
polish the water on a pond, but require a pressure pump like used in
swimming pools. This type of pump is fairly expensive to operate. I
think you'll find a sand filter is probably not the best choice as a
primary filter for a pond. The Sequence pump won't generate enough
pressure to backwash a sand filter.
A member of our club used a sand filter housing with various different
medias and was unable to successfully backwash it with his quarter-horse
sequence. He ended up taking the sand filter housing out of his system.
You can buy a quarter-horse Sequence (and that might be too big for your
pond) with the priming pot for about $375 by mail order. If your pond guy
really is recommending a Sequence pump and a sand filter, you might need a
new pond guy. Good luck.
