Question:
I have a cedar-wood fired hot tub that holds 600 gallons of water. We fil
it, use it then drain the water when it gets dirty. I'd like to use the
water on my lawn, flower beds ect. Lawn and flower beds are close to the
tub, 40 feet max, but they are all about 10 feet higher than the tub.
I'd like to get an electric portable pump that I can hook up to a garden
hose that would drive a sprinkler, then I can put it away when done. Does
such a pump exist? I've been told that I'll need a fairly strong pump of at
least 1 hp to get enough pressure to drive a sprinkler.
Do I need a pump that powerful?
Answer:
Yes it does exist. Check with electric motor repair shops in your area. The
one I deal with here carries all types and sizes of pumps and I have one
like you describe that I bought for speed draining water heaters. I have
since learned that a little air pressure from a small compressor works
better but that's another thread.
As for the size needed, the distance, size and number of sprinklers will
deterimine that and I personally couldn't tell you even if I did know all
those variables.
