Question:
Does anyone know if there are plans available for a homemade inground
swimming pool cover roller?
Answer:
It's pretty simple though I don't have plans. I took a piece of 4"
schedule 40 pvc, made a little stand for each end that allowed the pipe
to turn. Added a handle to crank it, (made from conduit), and attached
short straps to the cover.
If the pipe isn't long enough, don't join it in the middle. Use the
longest length in the middle, and add to each end using BOTH couplings
and another tight fitting pipe inside.
Put the gadget in place, hook the straps over a few sheet metal screws
in the PVC, and crank it up. To unroll it, a rope is attached to a few
points of the other end of the cover, just pull it out.
When the cover is on the roll, keep it in the shade! It will last much
longer.
