Question:
Can sched K be direct buried (18" below ground)?
How do I run the pressure test required by the city (Oakdale, Mn)?
Answer:
Out here in Ca. we can't run copper gas lines. (We go buy the uniform
plumbing code there is also some deferent codebooks) Any copper pipes
underground have to be brazed / silver soldiered. If you have to run type K
hope you have a porta-band it will be a job with tubing cutters. I would
take the advice on checking with building dep. for test requirements it's
seems every area has there own test requirements as long they meet the
minimum standard in the code .
First, contact your local inspection department. In some states, it is
illegal for a homeowner to run the gas line themself.
Copper would be my 2nd to last choice when running gas supply
lines..Tracpipe or similar first, black pipe second, gas approved PVC third,
copper, and never galvanized.
The city inspectors office can tell you what you will have to do to get it
approved, and if you need to submit a plan for the line run..havent seen a
city yet that did not require that...gas is not something you want to be
playing with, if you are not familiar with it.
