Swimming pools adjacent to buildings

Question:
Does anyone know the required distance to keep between a pool and a single family house in South Florida?

Answer:
I'm in Cape Coral and have done pools that extended into the house, with glass coming right down to the water line. On my own house the pool is 2' from the edge of the porch with large columns 8" from the brick coping. Call a local pool company and ask them, the gov't employees are all thumbs and have been known to lie. It would depend on several factors. 1. Structural stability. The foundation of the house should lie outside the angle of repose for the swimming pool bearing, and vice versa. With a new house this is not so much an issue, but an older house may require substantial improvements. 2. Zoning requirements. Local zoning may have different setbacks for princple and accessory structures. Often there is a minimum separation required for a structure to be classified as accessory under zoning. Thus in order to use a more liberal accessory structure setback a minimum fixed distance from the principle structure may be required. 3. Pool barrier requirements. See FBC 424.2.17.1 etc.
