Question:
How much are you wanting to spend for equipment and power?
Are you fabulously wealthy?
Answer:
Wealthy??? NOT!!! I posted the message to see if anyone has ever used one
and how well they work..In order to install a gas heater, there has to be a
gas line run...Total of 150' because the meter is on the opposite side of
the house. Or run thru the wall, up to the attic and across at the tune of
120'. We are waiting for an estimate to install the gas line but after
looking at the cost of the heat pump heaters, looks like I can get the gas
line installed and a really big heater for the same price...I am trying to
go with the most cost efficent heating method..We are not looking to heat
the pool all the time but want to be able to heat it reasonably quickly when
we do want to use it.Let's say you want that 400,000 BTUs for 9 hours from a heat pump. An
efficient heat pump will move about 14,000 BTUs per kilowatt of electric
power consumed. So you'll need 400,000/14,000 watts times 9 hours, or
about 257 kilowatt-hours of electric power. Given that a KWh of electric
power costs maybe 10 cents, that's on the order of $25 to heat your pool
for ONE SWIM.
I got onto a web page saying how much cheaper the heat pump
pool heaters are to operate..I am trying to find out how fast they heat, and
to what temp range they are affective..I know there is no way it will even
match the speed of the big gas heater, but want to see if someone who has
one can enlighten me on their operation..
